US Potato Culinary Festival Kuala Lumpur 2015

Well, when people say about "potato", what do you think about it? fries? mashed potato? What else beside of FAST FOOD? Malaysians may have become accustomed to enjoying potatoes in their more savoury forms such as fried, mashed or baked, the humble potato when cooked discerningly is in fact one of the healthiest vegetables one can consume.Huh? seriously?!! I thought eat potato can cause fatness? 
In fact, one medium-size (5.3 ounce) skin-on US potato contains just 110 calories per serving, boasts more potassium (620g) than a banana, provides almost half the daily value of vitamin C (45 percent) and contains no fat, sodium or cholesterol. Potatoes belong in the vegetable category of the USDA's Food Guide Pyramid, try do not peel off the skin because this is the part with high vitamin, minerals and fibre, just scrub potatoes under running water and they're ready to cook. *tips : peeled potatoes turn dark quickly if not immediately cooked.Sprinkling on a substance containing Vitamin C, such as lemon juice, can help prevent this.Cut potatoes also can stored in cold water, but shouldn't sit more than 2 hours to prevent loss of Vitamin C and water soluble nutrients.
When it comes to US potatoes, Malaysians will not have to compromise taste for any health reasons. A healthy, balanced meal can be just as tasteful. 13 restaurants participating in this year included famous hotels and restaurants such as Best Western Hotel, Big Hug Burger,Burger Factory,Jibby & Co., La Bo Ca Latino, La Risata, Maria’s Steakcafe, Naughty Nuri’s,Rendezvous Steak Garden Restaurant,Secret Of Lousinana,Sheraton Imperial Hotel Kuala Lumpur,The Daily Grind and The Roulette Bar. Yahoo!!! 13 Malaysian chefs are all set to tantalise the taste buds Malaysian foodies.


The chefs of these respective restaurants have to inventing the most unique and delectable recipes they can conceive using quality US potatoes and they will be serving these wonderful potato dishes at their outlets around the Klang Valley.For example potato frittatas, potato mash-ups and potato ice cream, special enough? =P don't be surprise, i had my potato milk shake just now in this launching event.

Though imported taters may sometimes come at a slightly premium price, but it is worthy because US potatoes produced with superior agriculture methods, harvesting and distribution facilities from the US to achieve better quality, taste, versatility and nutritional value. So many leading restaurants and QSR chains love to serve US potatoes due to their quality and superior taste. 
This is an recipe to share if you wanna make it special, create your own pouch potato meals by yourself.
Chicken and Gravy Pouch Potatoes (4 servings)
Ingredients :
4 sheet (12 inches square) heavy duty aluminium foil
1 1/3 pounds potatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick
4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves, sliced 1/2 inch thick
1 jar (12 ounces) prepared chicken gravy
2 cups frozen peas
1/2 medium red bell pepper, cut into strips
2 teaspoons dried thyme leaves
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Method :
  1. Heat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. In bowl, mis all ingredients; divide equally among foil sheets (about 1 1/2 cups each), placing mixture on right halves of foil squares.
  3. To seal each pouch, fold left side of foil over mixture. Fold in right edge 1/2 inch; fold again.
  4. Fold top and bottom edges the same way, leaving room for heat to circulate inside pouch.
  5. Place on baking sheet and bake in centre of oven 35 minutes.
  6. To open pouches, with scissors, cut a cross in the top of each, the pull back points, being careful as steam is released.
